Three Hundred and Four Empty Chairs
2016, Hand-cut images on Niyori paper, lights, Size: 14” x 10” each
This set of six pieces, created with hand cut out paper drawings and light and shadow effects, depicts 304 empty chairs. Shadows and empty chairs are both metaphors for the absence of existences, and they are only visible when held up to the light. This project is my response to the Sewol Ferry tragedy, which took the lives of 304 innocent people (mainly high school students) in Korea in 2014 under corrupted and irresponsible leadership.
