A Future Embedded in the Past
White threads, paper skulls made with hand paper-cast technique using pulp made from discarded newsprint paper
This project consists of an installation complemented by a public-engaging component. The exhibition space is filled, wall to wall, with thousands of white threads connecting the ceiling and floor, imagining a piece of “deep time” and, as the audience walks through the installation, the path of human time.
The audience, walking across the space, encounters over a hundred diverse paper skulls with informational tags floating at eye level, which together tell of the millions of years of primate and human evolutionary history.
Using the papermaking technique, I will cast 3D-printed models of primate and human skulls. These models will be 3D-printed data of discovered skulls, with the addition of a range of possible trajectories of skulls leading to different theoretical endpoints.
