Three Hundred and Four Empty Chairs
2016, Hand cut images on Niyori paper, lights, Size: 14” x 10” each
This set of 6 pieces created using hand cut out paper drawings with light and shadow effects creates images of 304 empty chairs. The shadows and the empty chairs are both metaphors of the absence of the existences and they are only visible under the light. This project is the artist’s response to the tragedy of Sewol Ferry which took 304 innocents lives (mostly high school students) in Korea happened in 2014 under the corrupted and irresponsible leadership.
